GEOMAGNETIC STORM IN PROGRESS: A moderately strong G2-class geomagnetic storm is in progress on March 1st as Earth enters a high-speed stream of solar wind. Aurora probabilities in central Canada are now topping 90%:
The solar wind is flowing faster than 500 km/s from a southern hole in the sun's atmosphere. Its effect is amplified by cracks now opening in Earth's magnetic field. Solar wind pouring through the gaps is fueling the storm.

Cheers Graham .... I appreciate the heads-up on the Solar Weather ...... after four days straight of beautiful warm sunny weather, this evening it turns to cloudy day and night for a few days .... so may be unlucky even if it comes this way ..... going to take the chance of today's sunny weather to walk some more of our coast hiking project ..... will make a change from stripping dodgy old paint off Morgan panels!! 🙂

Graham .... it was really nice to cover some miles .. ... weather was clear but the first of the cloud came over just before I took this .... will have a few days of it so sky-spotting will be limited. Nice photo!  Spaceweather. SOLAR WIND STORM IN PROGRESS: A solar wind stream is buffeting Earth's magnetic field, blowing faster than 600 km/s. This is causing minor G1-class geomagnetic storms. In Europe, auroras have been sighted as far south as Scotland. The solar wind is flowing from a Southern hole in the sun's atmosphere. Earth should remain inside the stream for another day, with a slight chance that wind speeds could top 700 km/s, the fastest in years.
