I just bought a rear view mirror for my M3W from Morgan Parts (Melvyn Rutter Limited). It is for the one piece wind screen.
You have to drill a hole in the center wind shield support. I am afraid to drill a hole with the wind screen still mounted.
I cant see how to remove the center wind screen support so I can drill a hole. Has anyone else installed this mirror?

“Looking at other 3 wheelers I would suggest that it’s no closer than 50mm from the top (best not to have the mirror glass above the top edge of the Perspex), but other than that it depends on what is a comfortable height for you.

If you drill in the centre of the upright keeping the drill at 90 degrees to the swept back centre stay. Cover the area to be drilled with masking tape as it’s easier to draw on and stops the drill slipping.”

I would not be afraid to drill with the perspex. Perspex should withstand almost anything of pressure and deformation. If you are afraid of the drill slipping sideways and scratching the perspex, the above mentioned tape trick is good advice. Even better is to use a pin punch in addition, to mark the drill hole. You could use an automatic punch,one that releases the pin suddenly and impacts the metal when you exort a certain pressure on the punch. On an ordinary punch you would have to use a hammer, not so good. Then use a rather thin burr to penetrate, followed by another burr with the right size.

Use good drills. Drill a pilot hole first. You could use a pointed object to create a starting point instead of a punch. Drill slowly with only enough pressure to keep the drill cutting. Ideally some wood behind would help when the drill breaks through and reduce the chances of cracks. A curved surface makes this difficult! Shaping a piece of wood to match the curve maybe? You could use a tough tape instead to give a little support. Don’t rush the drilling. You are not on a production line with time constraints.

I stick a washer over the site of the intended hole using double sided tape.

thanks for all the help. I drilled a hole but the threaded part was not long enough to screw the nut on. I tried several ways to squeeze the center support so I could get the nut started.
Finally I counter sunk the end closes to the mirror to get a few more screw threads to allow me to screw on the nut.
Went for a drive and I love the mirror. A lot more visibility.
