I read that the Government is going to adopt the EU Directive that forces the makers of many consumer electrical and electro-mechanical goods to design in repairability and supply spare parts for 10 years after the product goes out of production.
Details HERE
The intention is to cut waste and enforce "greenness"

There seems to be a serious sense of "parallel universe" going on here.

Some makers of these products have been doing this for years.
Their products last and can be repaired, often easily.
I replaced the hinges on a 10 year old built in Bosch Fridge Freezer for less that £50 and instructions from e-spares. It is now almost 15 years old and still going well.
But it wasn't cheap.

Such products are from Miele, Bosche, Siemens, etc. and a typical dishwasher form these people will be north of £300, often £500+.

The super cheap brands dishwashers don't last and parts are not easily available, but cost about £200.

It doesn't take a genius to work out that all this well intentioned directive will do is force up prices and hurt those least able to afford things.

Or is it just me?

Shouldn't that be: Morgan the most repaired car in the world?

I enjoy fixing everything I can. And that goes better with a Miele dishwasher than with a Chinese noname. Our dishwasher is 14 years old and I recently replaced the circulation pump.

I just think that people like Hammond who is replete with money, may not take the same care with his cars that others take, having saved up their hard earned cash to be able to afford one.
