Firstly, I noticed that the alternator belt runs close enough to the lower rad hose to touch it each time the engine is revved. So much so that a previous owner had fitted an aluminium sleeve to protect the hose. Is this "normal" or has something been changed along the way to cause the problem?

Hello erictharg,

That was the first job I had to do when we bought our 1991 car in 2014, quickly followed by the Jack Knight Steering Rack gaiter (but that's a whole other story). I was not new to Morgans having run a 1969 4/4 since 1981 (and still do).

The aluminium sleeve is 'normal' for exactly the reason you state, I was staggered to discover it was factory fitted - I thought it was a bean can someone had fitted to stop the bottom hose collasping ! It works but what a piece of rubbish.

I'm sure you know there is a spanner access slot in the inner wing to attack it from under the wheelarch. I also removed the curved pulley guard from the top. It took me a whle to get it done at which point I bought the tool to help me next time - a 'D' shaped ring spanner that then fits around the alternator and onto the nut/bolt.

I'll post a picture later and finish the post.

As you can imagine I think you've bought the right car.

Have Fun
Andy
