Or with the words of Stephan Winkelmann:

Today is a day worth celebrating at Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. Exactly fifty years ago, on March 11, 1971, an important part of our history was written: the Lamborghini Countach LP 500 made its first public appearance at the Geneva International Motor Show.
It was a reveal that completely changed the course of the company and marked the beginning of an unprecedented success as Lamborghini had to race against time to satisfy the customers’ requests and transform the futuristic show car into a production car.
From 1974 to 1990, 1,999 Countachs in five different series were produced, entering in the halls of legend, thus fascinating children and adults alike. And I am definitely one of the fascinated ones."

That is definitely a car of my youth...

Hi not sure if you have seen the you tube clip of Ferruccio Lamborghini personel Countach.

https://youtu.be/xd8oPaZ9B5I
On the last part of the film it was taken on the Horseshoe Past North Wales.
I past them in the pull in.

Apparently one of the least practical supercars of the era . The view out to the rear was non-existent, it was hardly reliable, and lacked any functioning cockpit ventilation.

It was only once they got taken into the Audi camp that many of their issues were sorted out I was informed.

But what a way to go!!! When something looks this good, who cares if you can't see where you've been and it may sometimes fail to proceed.

Except the LP500 did not arrive until 1974?

The 1971 Geneva car was an LP400 or 112 as it was called internally.
Internal joke at the time apparently applied after this become it's name "one leg for the throttle, one leg for the brake, both legs needed on the clutch"

oops

In my yoof I had a mad moment when I came into some money and took one for a test drive. I had the typical history of the poster on the wall etc. I had heard one running at a local car meeting and never stopped drooling thereafter.

They would not let me back it out of the parking slot.
I had to let them warm it up for ten mins prior to the test drive.
I had to be careful of the clutch, no kidding.
I could not use full throttle
I was not to wheelspin (cost of rear tyres would apparently have wiped out the profit)

When you start to see test drive restrictions like that it gives you an idea.

Anyway once I managed to fold myself into the seat I got a go. It was less scary than I expected given the stories. The clutch was a lump and it bounced off the line in first if you were not careful (A little like an Aero S1 in first) so you just used second. The interior was already falling apart and it only had 17,000 on it. Getting out was like an episode of it's a knockout.

But the experience was godly. The engine noise was in my head for weeks afterwards.
(No I did not buy it, I found out the cost of those tyres and I remain a loyal Aberdonian)

I will take an LP5000qv rather than the body kit on the Anniversary above if the pools ever come in. But if you twisted my arm I would take it anyway notworthy

I also had the Fiona Butler poster, sadly that never got anywhere.
