Good day all.

I am considering the purchase of either a 2014 Brooklands MW3 or a nicely optioned 2017 Three-Wheeler. I will be looking over the Brooklands this weekend and would love any advice on what specifically I should be keeping an eye on. The frame, exhaust or??? Should I just go for newer and scrap the idea of the Brooklands?

Have a good read of the buyers guide at the top of this forum in the M3W Owners Resources section, it will tell you most of what you need to know. You should be aware that some Brooklands M3W's were registered in 2014 but built in 2013 and don't have all the post 2014 upgrades, well worth checking closely. The Brooklands specific exhaust had a bad time initially with most (all?) of them cracking. This was finally rectified by Morgan after several "fixes". You should check that the Brooklands exhaust and mounts are of the latest specification, lots of info on this forum and the easiest way to find it is via Google rather than the website search.

In the long run the Brooklands could be the better bet as an investment but a well optioned and maintained 2017 car will be good as well.

Have a carefull look at the chassis of the 2014 registered Brooklands as I think they were all built in 2013 and as such will have the earlier chassis. Check the brace behind the engine 2013 cars will be bolted in later cars are welded.

In my (largely ignorant) view, the M3W special editions (Gulf, Superdry, and Brooklands) are overpriced now; but I would take the Brooklands in preference to a 2017 Euro 4, which really needs a Stage 2 performance upgrade. A reasonably priced Euro 3, however, would get my vote.

Like any car, mileage and condition will be a big factor.

I bought a 2015 Brooklands two years ago with 350miles on the clock, it has the bolt in frame brace. Since then I’ve had Phil Bleazey’s Centa mods done, the stronger lower wishbone brackets fitted (despite no frame cracks). A Fabian rear pulley and a Walbro fuel pump have also been fitted. The dealer fitted the rear mudguard and the cam chest mods as part of the purchase deal. MMC recently modified the fuel tank mountings under warranty.

I’ve probably spent around £4K on improvements. As yet the original exhausts and brackets are holding up, but I’ve only added 2000miles so far.

Would I buy it again.,,,.absolutely!

When inspecting, check under the buckle pads on the bonnet belt, you may find some paint damage.

Certainly appreciate all the information. I will be checking out the Brooklands this afternoon. IMHO, did you install the Centa mods and the Fabian pulley? These are mods I figured to purchase once the Morgan is in my garage.

I removed the engine and took it to Phil’s for the Centa mods but installed the Fabian sprocket myself. Check that the hub of the existing rear sprocket is the black one, this makes the refit easier and cheaper.

I’ve yet to get it up on the lift to check, from the initial chat it sounded like plates bonded to the tank base which I struggled to understand so thought I’d let them crack on and then see if I’m convinced. It maybe that they think the problem is deflection of the base supports. I’ll report back after inspection.
