On the ratings above, the Toyo E wet rating looks to be more of a concern than the B of the CT22.
With Ttrac 2 being unavailable, other than Michelin XAS at £135-140 what option is there?
I don;t feel right about fitting Nankang's finest on the 4/4 ?

The Conti CT22 always over many years was rated E in the wet. which confirms its abilities. Since one year it is rated B. In don‘t know why.

At double the price of Vredstein or Conti?..... I may as well buy the Michelin at £135 or have the sidewwalls encrusted with diamonds if I am feeling really extravagent?

Just spoken with Paul Harris again.

Vredestein UK and NL are out of stock but he has been told it's because they are concentrating on higher value tyres at the moment.

The feeling is that they will come back into production at some time but no idea how long the wait will be.

I seem to recall that this has happened before.

This morning I phoned various smaller & large tyre retailers this morning and then finally a call to Vredstein.

The outcome being, the Ttrac 165 80 15 is still on the Vredstein 2021 price list, however no tyres in this size are currently being manufactured, nor are scheduled to be manufactured?

So, we have a tyre that is not discontinued, unavailable with no certainty when manufacturing will commence.

The issue compounds as the manufacturer does not have orders from customers for 165/80/15, yet they are either not listed or have been removed from the website in this size by many tyre retailers?

I am coming round to the Contis on the basis, you can actually buy them?

I see little point in buying a tyre that is mostly unavailable, if I need to replace one. I may then have to buy a matching pair and then be frustrated at the odd mix of tyres on each axle?

Has anyone actually used the Conti's and lived to tell the tale?

My 4/4 is only used on sunny days and I actually prefer to feel the car move about a bit than grip.

I once had a very scary incident on a wet road with Conties.
Never again for me!

The same for me that's why I changed them at 16,000miles (on the 4/4 Sport) for a good set of Toyo's which they no longer manufacture.

Your post asked for options other than the XAS or Nankang...

I have a background in the tyre industry although not specifically with car tyres.

I have been intrigued why some people like the Conti's and some, me included, hate them. So I spoke with their technical department about the tyre construction and compound etc.

Whilst they obviously would not give away any of their proprietary information, they did tell me that the tyre originally went into production in 1994 and was unchanged until 2018.

Then it underwent a major redesign of both the carcass and the compound to bring it up to "modern standards"

The redesign went into production in the back end of 2018.

The new design had a slight improvement in rolling resistance from F to E but crucially, a big improvement in wet grip from E to B. Tyre noise stayed the same.

So, It might well be worth giving the Conti's another chance.
