Just had my quote from G&W for next year. Been with them for 5 years.
Reading through the T&C's and came across a new endorsement that has been slipped unannounced into the policy this year: E08
"Cover provided under the Sections entitled Loss or damage to your vehicle and Personal belongings of your policy, will not apply between the hours of 10.00 pm and 6.00 am where your vehicle is parked and unattended at, or within a 500 meter radius of, your home or other previously agreed address, unless your vehicle is kept in a locked garage".
I live in a very low crime area so not sure why its been added.
It's not a problem to me as its garaged but I know some TM members keep their cars outside and could be caught out by this.
Check your policies!

Check your policies! I'm with Footman James and haven't seen this, but I'll check. Nice that they make the assumption that we're all loaded and live in houses with garages.....

Where the car is parked at night is a question that I have always been asked when getting an insurance quote. That endorsement shouldn't be added to a policy unless you told them it was garaged originally.

When you typed "check your policies" docock, those were wise words, for I suspect few amongst us ever do. The other thing I note when reading an insurance thread is those who suggest this or that company as they have been with them for years and they are nice folk... whereas for me experience of claims and the companies settlement processes would perhaps be more pertinent..?
Yeah I too have been with the same specialist broker since I bought my Mog almost 20 years ago, and they are easy to deal with..
From a dull memory there was at least one specialist broker who apparently did not do well at all in a claim process and sought to write a car off that was subsequently saved by the determination of it`s owner to resolve the situation in a more "reasonable" manner. Of course there are two sides to every story but it did make compelling reading.
As for reading the policy documents... I have ever had agreed value fully comp insurance on my old Morgan since day one, requiring it to be valued every three years or so, I also have foreign travel cover and a few years back I took the time to read my policy for that year which stated that cover reduced to the minimum cover accepted in whatever country I might be driving when outside the UK (or words to that effect) Which as best I can remember was what was known as RTA (?) in the UK, and which is less cover that Third Party provides, goodness knows what the minimum cover might be in the mix of countries in which we travelled, fortunately without incident.. !
Have I read my recently renewed policy ...err...Duh..!!

A few years ago we reorganised our fleet of 3 cars. My merc was getting old and was traded in for a VW whilst SWMBO got a new Polo. So we upgraded her policy to reflect this. No increase for a new car with higher value but £30 from memory for moving it from a drive to a garage. When I pointed this out the then provider Tesco told me more cars were nicked from isolated garages. Even pointing out the garage wall was part of the house had no impact. Go figure.

I think this is quite standard if you state the car is garaged on the policy. It was on my one a few years back. Obviously if your policy says you store it on the street or drive this would not apply.. it only applies with 1/4 mile of home so fine to park outside further than that

In my experience, this has always been one of the first ‘questions’ on car insurance applications - we were once asked the same when looking to insure our son’s expensive carbon-fibre road bike.

^^^^^^^^^^ I have seen the question about where the car is kept for many years. From memory it is just garaged with no qualification of where the garage is, either attached or separate. The only spanner in the works is it it was a garage away from the property itself. I think the wording is “normally kept” so there is leeway for leaving it out on the drive as an exception.

NFU accept the Mercedes cars are parked on the drive, but required the Morgan to be garaged at night when not in use and we are at home. The garage is integral to the house and alarm system, there is a 130db siren in the garage to discourage anyone from staying long.
