I was made redundant 4 times. Once you get past the insult that they ditched you it can be quite liberating. Oh & screw them on the package.

I've been stuffed 4 times.

1. They sold the business unit I ran to Coalite and TUPE'd me. I left after 3 months. Coalite was a disgusting enterprise, it folded a few years later.
2. The owner of the small business I worked for retired and his partner bought him out and made me redundant.
3. The company I worked for bought the business mentioned in 2. above and I later found out a condition of the deal was that they got rid of me. Redundant again.
4. The company I worked for was bought by the company that sold me to Coalite and moved me into a non job. I stuck it out for almost 3 years before retiring at 66 on health grounds.

I now work as a consultant, self employed, mostly for private equity funds. They are generally about as sincere as a Politician. I am very glad I'm now 100% in control of what I do.

My last corporate employer made me redundant but made such a mess of the process that I negotiated a 25% uplift in the payout. I then started my own business and went consulting. No regrets. A lot less stress. A lot less driving and a lot more freedom. Now retired (since Dec-17) and still cannot believe I worked for other people for so long.
