A very bad day. I owe a huge amount in tax according to Steven Hawkings but can fix it by pressing button 1 and I have an undelivered parcel that I need to pay £1.99 to the PO for according to a text and a helpful URL.The expletive depleted scum.

Where has the fun gone?

At least when people called you then you could keep them on the phone for ages with my old man Devonian accent my lubber. My record was 40 mins in lockdown, being old I kept getting confused till I told them sex & travel.

Have to agree when they called you you could have loads of fun , had a call recently from a young lady informing me my BT broadband line had been compromised which I thought was odd as I’m with SKY but went along with it , I was asked “ are you on your computer now ?” Yes I said good job you called sounds serious. , “ what’s on the screen now “ she said so I replied PORN ! Oddly enough the line went dead

Sometimes I just say Yes to every question or sentence till they put the phone down. LOL


Once a guy from 'Microsoft' called saying my PC had a virus. I went along with it. he got to point where he was asking for me to get into the bios and type in some numbers and stuff. He asked what it says on your screen so I spelled out F.. U ...C......**** Y........O.......U.

At which point he screamed down the phone 'Oh you mother%%%%&&^er ' Lol

You can always tell the scammers. Indian accent, lots of noise in the background. Getting a few from here in the UK though but only takes a couple of moments to guess their game.

I dont get as many these days though. Kinda sad in a way as I used to love winding the scotes up.

Like you I regarded it as my duty to keep them on the line for as long as possible, that way they have less time to bother more vulnerable people. However like you I have not been experiencing as many , perhaps we are on a "black list" due to our "time wasting" tactics . I do hope so.

I once had a call on my mobile from Microsoft whilst I was working at Microsoft! I asked him whether he was in the UK and he replied he was, I said is it Thames Valley Park and again the answer was yes. He rang off when I asked him which floor he was on so I could come and see him in person!

When I first retired I amused myself by keeping them on the line for as long as possible. My technophobe old man routine was the most successful - phone downstairs, PC upstairs: "hang on, I'll go up and do that for you" (long break) "sorry, what did you want me to type again?" I found 20 minutes was usually easily achievable. My wife got fed up with it though, now we have a call blocker that only lets through known numbers.

BT have a reporting system for nuisance calls. Just dial 1572 immediately after call then press 1 when prompted.

That's a coincidence because I owe DHL £1.99 to get my parcel delivered!
