Hello TMers

The end is in site for my rebuild. Does anyone know of a good upholster to carry out work on my MOG. I live in Sunny Salsibury so i don't want to travel too far - max distance (100 miles) for the right person. I know that the MOG dealers have upholsters but at a price. Or is it a case of the most expensive is the best?

Also I know that alot of MOGs are covered in leather but has anyone used vinyl? I know in the 1970s etc it was considered bad form but things have now moved on. (Or has it??)

Has anyone out in the Morgan world used anything other than leather? If you have what are your views.

I've bought replacement studs for the hood from them! When I visited they were re-upholstering a Porsche 911, so probably not cheap.
As to the leather/Vinyl question, things have evolved. Instead of vinyl there are a number of artificial leathers, most are water resistant, yet breathable. Mercedes call there product Artico (Artificial Cow) and if I were to reupholster Tarka I'd seriously consider using it for everything other than the seat faces.

Our previous 4/4 (1985) was trimmed in black vinyl from new. The seats had been re-trimmed in black leather. It looked fine and was easy to care for.

Steve Summers (Summers Upholstery) is ex MMC (43 years!) and has now set up on his own in Malvern so just about falls within your 100 mile criteria. His website and Facebook pages show examples of his work, which appears to be excellent. Might be worth giving him a call to pick his brains.

I had my front and back seat retrimmed last year. Cost me £760 and that included fitting heated seat panels into the front seats. Had them done in vinyl, as it was cheaper, very hardwearing and I'm vegan.

The place is based in Peterborough, so outside your catchment area, but there are bound to be similar locally. He'd previously done a few bike seats for me.

I would suggest trying some local Classic Car clubs (try facebook) - they usually know of a few good trimmers.

There's a very good outfit next to Terry Foxon's at Gigg Mill, Old Bristol Rd, Nailsworth, Stroud GL6 0JP, I'm sure if you gave him a call he'll have their number. About 130mile round trip from Salisbury area.
