After a few joyful minutes test driving I have a bit of setback in my restauration project.
The engine just doesn't start anymore. The battery is new and fully loaded - the ignition timing set to 12°.
As the old Lucas starter had some issues in the past anyway, I am ordered a new one that should arrive later this week.

But I have the gut feeling that I somehow screwed up the Weber 32/34 DFT overhaul. To diagnose this, I got access to the Ford Escort Service and Repair manual on the shop PC of a friend.
It includes all necessary specs for the Ford CVH engine - distributed over multiple chapters. I thought it is a good idea to merge all specs into a single file - including all torque settings I could find.

Currently I only have the Ford CVH engine specs - if I get access to further specs (especially torque settings for the suspension, brakes etc) I will add them to the document.

if you are interested and what a copy - you can download my PDF here:

Do you have the handbook for the car? I had a 1993 4/4 with the 1.6 cvh efi version. Not carbs. I scanned the handbook and sent a copy to Gomog to add to the list on there. You can go there to see it. I still have the scans and can send them to you if they would help. Not perfectly specific for your engine but a lot of the rest should be ok.

Thank you for this hint. I never got a handbook with the car and as a search doesn't show the content of the handbooks - I didn't look them up so far. Good hint.
As the green handbook for a Morgan 4/4 with CVH is available on Amazon I just ordered one.

I also found a very interesting information on the Gomog handbooks on the ignition timing.
The Ford CVH manual says 12° BTDC - but says nothing about using 8° BTDC for unleaded fuel.

As the garage that did the technical inspection used the Ford manual - I wonder if this might be adding to the startup issue.....

The racetep.com site is helpful - as well as this on from: Carbs Unlimited
I also got the hint that the Ford Escort Service and Repair manual is online available over here at: Ford Manuals
This is what I had access to. It also has the same formatting issues. The Ford manual includes a good section on the Weber setup as well which I will use.

Luckily (and thanks to Ebay), I now have two more used Weber 32/34 DFT as well as the Haynes Weber Carburetor manual. If you plan to rebuild a Weber I can highly recommend this book. Reading it also feels a bit of time-travel or somebody revealing an ancient black-art to you. smile

Chapter 10 is covering the DFT including a good explanation how it operates as well as disassembly and assembly.
While taking it apart again tonight, I could not find any obvious fault or mistake on my carb - other that I could not remove the pump delivery valve.

Hopefully, I have two fully rebuild DFT carbs by the weekend along with a new starter, new spark plugs and a fuel pressure gauge.
Anyhow - I will update the Technical Specs I gathered and publish updates on the URL specified above.

It's also worth looking at the different CVH's there are CVH's and CVH's... Ford manufactured multiple variants of parts all badged the same part number for the CVH. Especially around the cylinder-head. They even salted out a batch of rally homologation heads onto production line builds.

You can swap some of the parts from different capacities around.. so if you have the 1600cc CVH Hemi head you can fit 1300cc dome top high compression pistons.

Its worth looking at some of the simple things as overall the CVH engine is limited by valve lift duration and piston top clearance... without turbocharging.
