Just got this from a friend:-

Straight the from the City of London Police fraud team - Extremely sophisticated scam going about this week, involving all banks. You get a message saying a payment hasn’t been taken e.g O2, Vodafone, 3, Giff Gaff or EE and to click here. As soon as you touch it your money is gone. They already have all your details and it’s the most advance scam the bank has ever seen. Pass this on to everyone please. This is straight from work this morning - the banks are being inundated with calls - thousands flying out of peoples accounts! Spread the word to your family and friends!”
Be vigilant !!!!

As confirmed by Martin Lewis this morning!

This looks like a hoax, particularly in the wording.

Nothing about it on Martin Lewis MoneySavingExpert or Met Police fraud web sites this morning.
The nearest I can find is this news item on City of London police, which shows 15,000 accounts hacked over the last year:
https://www.cityoflondon.police.uk/...-keep-online-accounts-safe-from-hackers/

We should all be vigilant at all times, anyway smile

A message containing the phrase "Pass this on to everyone please" is invariably a scam itself. As Graham says, be vigilant all the time.

It's becoming increasingly difficult to determine scam from truth! My friend is usually fairly canny! doh

Caroline has just received her John Lewis Mastercard statement. There is a mystery debit of £643 to PayPal.
She doesn't have a PayPal account, and never buys online other than to Amazon.
The details provided on the statement make identifying anything impossible.
On to John Lewis to dispute the payment.

Very frustrating! A couple of years ago I had about £4k taken out of my account - a Jet 2 ticket booking from Leeds and a hotel in Turkey. My bank had all the details of the passengers - as did Jet 2 - their names, addresses, travel dates etc but couldn't 'under data protection' tell me who it was. I was refunded very swiftly but also knew that the thieves would get away scot free.
