My 1997 +8 has Pirelli P7 Cinturato 205/55 R16 V tyres which are close to needing replacement. Are these OK or are there better tyres for the +8? Thoughts welcome on tyre choice please.

Go for these

https://www.camskill.co.uk/m62b0s291p180985/Toyo_Tyres_Car_Toyo_Proxes_TR1_-_205_55_R16_91W_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_E_Wet_Grip%3A_B_NoiseClass%3A_2_Noise%3A_70dB

They are the very best for grip in both wet and dry. Not expensive, slightly faster wearing , but the +8 is a light car so it won't be a major issue.

I put Avon ZV7’s on last change. No complaints. Good wet grip as that is when you need it most! I changed all 5 and rotate the spare to get all 5 in use. Better than having a brand new unused spare that gets old.

I had Toyo TR1's on the previous Roadster and was very happy with them, they had a slight tendency to flat spot on the fronts if not used for a few weeks & assume this was because Mogs run such low pressures, cleaned up after a couple of miles when they warmed up

+1 for the Toyos, though you may not end up with the exact same circumference, no big deal, it just means the speedo will under-read a bit, though you can reset it.
