As the subject line says, let's try and build a better more reliable Turn Signal Module.

I have an electronics Engineer that is looking at this and has asked the following questions.

I would be grateful for any answers, findings, diagrams anyone has.

His questions are as follows:

The unit arrived just now.

I see, after an online search, that, according to :Updated list 14. 7 January 2020 (mtwc.co.uk) it causes trouble:

Do you have further info on the failure mode?
Do you know the connector part number?
can you send me a wiring diagram of the vehicle?

Let me have any answers here and I'll forward them on to Alister, the engineer.

Thanks

I would suggest that Skullmog would be a good person to contact about this, he has some expertise with the electronics side of things. Also RichardV6 (who was RichardM3W once). I can supply contact details if required, just let me know. I would guess that as much of the M3W loom is based on the S&S base loom and I assume that is based on a Harley Davidson loom, the TSM will be a HD compatible unit....but that could be totally wrong? If you make any progress please let me know and I will be very happy to update the Alternative Parts List 👍.

The connector is probably an AMP Multilock 070 18 Way type.

That's a heck of a task BearDee although technically possible with reverse engineering. The TSM unit integrates with the dash instruments and switches which don't have a published wiring schematic to my knowledge. The stalk switch is also involved which I believe provides only logic commands to the mix.

The wiring diagram on page 69 of the parts book should give you enough information to work out where the wires attached to the TSM connector go to in the car, but does not explain what their functions are. However, the color coding does seem to follow the British Standards to some extent, these are explained on this website.

Good luck!

Thanks Richard - I agree, but we have a team of great engineers on a maker site I follow: www.electromaker.io

We can but try & if we fail, then we know that we tried :-)

Sorry - but what's the problem with the Turn Signal Module? You press the lever down, it indicates left and push up and it indicates right (RHD).....am I missing something or is that not how it is supposed to work...?
Or does it need over engineering like a lot of M3W bits and pieces seem to need?
