Recently had my car in for service, 2002 +8, with 3 eared spinners. They have tightened up the spinners to the point where I cannot remove them. I usually place a wooden mallet on one of the spinner points and whack it with a lump hammer but have managed to break the two mallets I had trying to get the spinners off. I will go back to service people and ask them to release them but wondered for future cleaning etc. whether there is a tool out there that suits the purpose. Any one else found a solution to this.?

Thanks in advance.

This can be machined to suit 3 eared spinners apparently- I dont know if the seller offers it or if you need to get someone else to do it- No doubt as its billet ally, someone on here with the requisite tooling may be able to knock something up, or modify?

We have a three eared one from him for our Elan Sprint. Lotus spec a torque value for their wheel so it is ideal for using with a torque wrench.

I got mine from 4 ashes aston martin
https://www.fourashesgarage.co.uk/t...r-in-car-use-or-workshop-42mm-not-jaguar

They don’t show/advertise it but if you email them they do make them ( as the description in the 2 eared version states)
The 3 eared version isn’t cheap, but fully encloses all 3 ears and has a centre ¾” centre for a driver.
They need to know the wheel centre diameter (should be 42mm)

Video I hope...

Try a dead blow hammer...Thor make them, and also use a blowlamp to gently heat up the nut, that never failed on my Plus 4 with powder coated wheels, which tend to grab the nuts.

Les, forgive me for suggesting it, but if it’s on the driver/off side, are you sure you are going the right way as it is a left hand thread on that side, and will need to go clockwise to undo. Easy to forget.

Yep following all the arrow indicators, cannot undo any of the four wheels.

I recently bought a two eared spinner tool from wheelwidget@hotmail.co.uk and they do 3 -eared tools as well. It's run by Lionel Roberts, a very friendly retired E-Type enthusiast, who CNC machines them out of solid billets of aluminium. You need a large socket (32mm I think) and a breaker bar but no more need to wallop the spinner with anything heavy, which I've never been comfortable with. They cost about £50 and when I bought mine he had them in stock and I got it within days. Send him an email. This link has more detail :

38mm Hex Socket on our 2 eared spinner from Lionel Roberts. Well made piece of kit and does away with the need to wield a hammer next to spokes or bodywork.
