First day of intercounty freedom here in Scotland.

Living on the edge of one shire, with my chosen fuel station in the next shire, today was THE day..(-:

Though in truth only managed to fuel up and straight back home, but it was great to fire the old thing up, burble along the tree lined single track country road for perhaps a couple of miles, the sun creating sparkle on the windscreen as it filtered through the trees, then out on to the "normal" road for a mile or so which was enough to warm things up a tad, though no more than 50mph for a very short time, bumping through the occasional unavoidable pot hole. With the hood up, and on a first run out in who knows how long, my hearing being overly sensitised, listening out for any untoward noises that I would not normally hear as I so dislike running with the hood up, fueled up and back home with the old thing in the garage.... At least we got out together again, though wither to brave the roads on this sunny day with all the old fogies like me out there on their first day of freedom and heading out for a wee run in the sun, taking in the countryside sights... Hmm..???

Yeah seems I have become even more cowardly in my dotage, weather permitting, a dawn run on the morrow seems on the cards smile

I rarely drive (where ever possible) a convertible car with the hood up for all the reasons you mention, as the structural integrity of a convertible is always a compromise, no matter how much additional structural bracing they try to build in for the missing roof. Even the best convertibles crash and bang far more than their coupe equivalents. Roof down wind roar tends to mask the unpleasantries...... even in a Morgan, the difference is between roof up or down is huge, even on quite smooth surfaces...............

Nottinghamshire seem to apply lorry loads of salt whenever the overnight temperature is in single figures. I wouldn’t mind having to hose it off so much. However, there has been no rain for several days and some of the local roads are starting to look almost like unsealed gravel.

A great run out to Harwich via the back roads with Tony for a bacon buttie & a coffee then back via the Bristol Arms in Shotely for a pint of Cliff Quay bitter. All in great sunshine & gladly no salt to be seen on the roads.

This looks like perfect weather for rides with the top down and a visit to the pub.
Unfortunately, we are far away from both in Austria at the moment.

Oh yes a nice real ale bitter. It is just like riding a bike you soon get the knack back.
