Hi all. I Need some advice please. I have a slow idle problem with my 2010 Roadster Sport – it idles ok most of the time but occasionally the revs have been hanging at around 2000 rpm with the clutch in eg at a junction. Suspected duff ICV so I swapped the old one with a brand new, correct part number cheap one (£20) from eBay. Not advisable to buy cheap I know but I could not get one from my local Ford dealer (part number on the original ICV not recognised and then disinterest) and a Morgan dealer suggested £164 + VAT shipped from Germany.
The cheap ICV changed the nature of the fault (a good thing from a diagnostic perspective) to a rather disconcerting rev hang at 4500 rpm following hard acceleration, which lasts until engine is slowed down by braking; otherwise normal slow idle. So I have removed the new ICV and put in the original post a good clean. Seems to have cured the original slow idle problem but I don’t trust it and wish to fit a branded new replacement if I can find one that costs less than £200.
The part number on the original ICV is 3F1E-9F715-AC and I assume that it’s the same as the ICV fitted to a Ford Escape. Does anyone have an alternative part number, know whether the ST220 ICV is the same or any other suggestion?

I have one for an st220 I bought off ebay as I had a lean mixture engine light issue. It wasn't the icv so I took it off.
Make me an offer and it is yours. I used it for probably max 1k miles

Thanks John. Very kind. I’ve not been able to work out whether the ST220 ICV is the same as that for the Escape 3.0. Compatibility tables that I have found would suggest otherwise but that may be because the Escape was never sold in the UK. Please excuse the question but how confident are you that the ICV you have is the correct one for my car? Thanks. Chris

Chris, it may be worth checking for any fault codes via the OBD2 port using a cheap reader, before you randomly swop too many parts chasing a fault

I've tried the code reader thing and no faults are showing up so part swapping might be the only way. Will have another look at the OBD readout after a long drive tomorrow. I'll also see if I can do some clever number matching on eBay.com or order one from the US if necessary.

Chris, try soaking the 'plunger' part of the ICV with something like carb cleaner as it may just be sticking intermittently

Went on a long drive yesterday with the well cleaned original ICV and no idle problems at all. Phew.

What did cause a problem though was a large pothole 4 miles from home. A big bump and the engine just died. Pulled to the side of the road and to cut a long story short the car has been recovered to Williams Morgan who found the 5A dashboard and immobiliser fuse to have blown but not sure why. Really strange symptoms - no gauges or warning lights and nothing on the key or starter button but the headlights and indicators worked fine. We were travelling up a steep hill on a country road at the time and not safe to fault find beyond cursory checks. Its due an MOT in three weeks so taking advantage of garage time - hope it passes and will collect on Friday.

So the idle problem returned a week or so later and in consequence I thought I'd better bite the bullet and get a new ICV - dealer price circa £200 and only available in Germany, which I thought was a bit (lot) too steep. So I did a trawl of various US sites and discovered that the Motorcraft part number for a 3.0 V6 Escape ICV was CX1899 and that it was available on Amazon from the US for £50. Ordered one and it arrived from the US a week later. Compared it to the original and identical including manufacturers part number (3F1E-9F715-AC FK13). Fitted and checked over several long runs and all appears fine. Sailed through the MOT as well but now wondering what next albeit still great fun to drive
