I have sat outside a pub many times which had the parasol heaters, which seemed to work quite well. It definitely helped us to stay outside a couple of hours longer on cool evenings.

Hey, I remember the Mersey freezing over. Was about 1960 and that was between Wallasey and Liverpool. I remember those cold winters in the 60s catching the bus to go to Stockport Grammar School wearing shorts with long socks and having chapped legs between top of socks and bottom of shorts. Founders Day Service was held in St Mary's Church in March it always snowed and was bloody cold.

Hood up = more snug and less warm clothes. Fewer, unless you mean clothes that are less warm?
