DEAR MORGAN THREE WHEELER FRIENDS IT IS WITH DEEP REGRET AND SADNESS THAT WE HAVE TO INFORM YOU OF THE PASSING AWAY OF AUSTIN SMITH. This was after a very short illness. Austin was a well known and much liked Morgan Three Wheeler owner who will be sadly missed by us all. R.I.P. AUSTIN ..................................................................................................................................... Around two months ago Austin rang me for a chat about coming to our End Of Season Bash in Malvern. He said then that he had been feeling unwell and had a hospital appointment that week. He went ahead and booked the Abbey Hotel. I next heard from him on Saturday 17th April, he called me around Mid-Day and said he had been given the bad news that he had only days to live and he wanted to talk. Though he was clearly on medication we talked for an hour about Morgans and past events he had enjoyed being on with us in recent years. We laughed a little and I must admit we both cried when he expressed how much he had been looking forward to doing things in his further modified five speeder and continuing to upgrade his F Type. Austin was a North Country man just like me and from the same part too. We had got on from day one of our first meeting up. He did so much to get five speeders accepted into racing, he spent lots of time encouraging others to take up the sport too. The Sprint Day he organised at Curborough was a huge success due to him. He was the first to congratulate me on the formation of Touring Group and strongly believed in it's aims. I feel humbled that on his deathbed he wanted to call me for a talk about things. Austin it was a pleasure to be friends with you and you will be sadly missed by all who knew you. Our deepest sympathy goes to his Daughters and relatives Ian Parkinson ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/04/21/35511988_10214135703044385_3704368520675459072_n.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/04/21/unnamed-4.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/04/21/unnamed-3.jpg)

Really shocked & saddened
Austin was a real force within the 3 wheeler racing community and an advocate for the M3W/5 speeder (even with its problem child issues) when others wanted to see its demise within the MTWC he raced it & proved it. He pushed the car at times to its max and broke it on several occasions and his exploits were often highlighted on the forum, the club magazine & Facebook.

I heard about Austin earlier from another Morganeer, and very tragic news it is too. Such a lovely chap. I remember having a brew with he & Julia in his motorhome at Curborough a few years back, and his impassioned speech to Steve Morris on the TM day I helped organise. So very very sad.

Very sad and shocking news. The 5 Speeder racing group and all of us who came to watch the racing will miss you greatly, you did so much to promote the M3W Austin. RIP "WarBird"

I’m deeply saddened and shocked to hear this news. What a wonderful, friendly and helpful person Austin was!
One of the best things about owning my Morgan 3 Wheeler back in 2013 was meeting up with Austin, where with others we went on some super runs and events, many of them organised by Austin. He had a great passion and enthusiasm for the car, always finding more new M3W owners and bringing them in, the more M3Ws the merrier for Austin. There was always a warm welcome from Austin and Julia whenever we met them.
I always enjoyed watching Austin and Julia racing at Valley circuit on Anglesey, where Austin made every effort he could to improve the speed of his “WarBird” to take on those mighty little Jap engine Morgan 3 Wheelers.
Such a warm and friendly person! I’m sure he will be sadly missed by all those that had the good fortune to get to know him! A great loss to the Morgan community.
Our deepest condolences and thoughts to Julia and all of his family at such a sad time.
