Worth pointing out that above headlamps when fitted with LED "bulbs" are currently illegal on cars built after 1st April 1986. Although they mis-quote the cutoff date a statement here from the suppliers.

I originally thought that (due to the huge price) these were specific LED lights (like Wolf and others are selling), but it seems they are same ones they sell as Halogens, just with the LED upgrade in, meaning that they are illegal as you state. You can get a set of P700's for £50 new, and ClassicCarLighting due an LED upgrade for under £50 HereSo you can get an indentical set up for less than 50% of the better car lighting set up (if you are pre 86)

Might have mentioned this before but, if you buy the cheaper P700 and opt for the LED version then they aren't 'halogen bowls converted to LED' they're LED lights supplied as such from new not a conversion ..... if you buy the halogen version and later decide to put LED bulbs in them then they would be illegal. ..... at least that's my position if they get queried at MOT.

That's a good point - I doubt the MOT tester would check that the appropriate CE marks were evident, and they wouldn't dismantle to see if they were removable LED bulbs (I assume that the dedicated LED units have a fixed bulb - more like sealed beams).

Not wishing to appear as pedant, is it not the date of first registration which determines the construction and use regs that apply to a vehicle as opposed to when it was "built"...? I guess the confusion for Morganeers is that many of us will perhaps know the build date of our cars, which may well be somewhat different from the date it was first registered and which could make a difference as to which regs apply..?

Umm, slightly concerned on the comments of these being illegal. I purchased these as an LED unit and they were advertised as compliant with UK regs.
I understand the regulations are changing rapidly and this may have changed but I was hoping I was OK as this was a new unit.
I will contact the seller, thank you for the warning.

I will contact the seller, thank you for the warning. It's the seller that has updated the advice Steve in the light of recent changes, as they are not "E" marked dedicated LED units. Here is link again, scroll down to "Stop Press" at bottom of page. You may be lucky at MOT time however.

I did see the updated Stop Press data on the website but when I purchased these (I believe after the issue was known) the description stated that the units met all UK requirements, so I am a little frustrated. TBM, I thought I was buying unit that was fitted with LED but what you receive is the Halogen units fitted and additional LED bulbs. I guess I could just replace the Halogen bulbs if necessary. Such is life...

That is disappointing -especially considering he's flogging them for £299 a pair (Wolf Performance genuine, fully compliant units are only £275)
