Andrew, I’d recommend wearing at least a pair of goggles every time you go out to protect your eyes from a flying stone kicked up by a car in front. For a helmet, I use one (a Shoei J-Cruise 2) that has a slide down clear visor that covers the whole face and prevents that stinging feeling you otherwise get in the rain. The J-Cruise also has an internal flip down sun visor.

Does the tonneau fit in the rear luggage compartment (boot/trunk) or do you have to decide whether to leave it at home if you plan to carry a passenger?

Also, it looks as if the removable steering wheel mount may be the original Lifeline (gold colour) rather than to more recent Traven (slight greenish tinge). If so this is good news as there are potential issues with the Traven if you regularly remove and refit the wheel.

Can confirm the tonneau does NOT fit in the boot. I do find it a challenge to put it somewhere safe while I take a passenger out.

Andrew - is there a fabric tonneau for the drivers side? How does that attach?

There's a fabric cover that attached to the metal snap posts at the center fore & aft edges of the cockpit. I'll try to get it figured out and pictures taken.


Chris, I've also checked the quick connect hub. It's Traven. I have found that you have to be exactly lined up with the centering tab. Otherwise, it will wedge the splines wrong and be a bear to get back off. With the steering ratio so very different front a normal passenger car, I often will look at the front wheels and think I'm close to the center but the steering shaft is further to one side than I expect.

I imagine that keeping those splines cleaned of dust/dirt and lubed frequently will aid in longevity.

Thanks, it was a bit difficult to tell in the photo and I was hoping they had gone back to Lifeline. The Traven does have a potential problem if you're not very careful to line it up and lock it correctly. The best advice is to leave the locking screw in place and not remove the steering wheel.

Great to see the hard tonneau cowling at last in your well shot video - This opens up more possibilities for modification but again shows the last of the M3W in P101 guise to have potential for future issues. I would have liked to see machined cowling latches properly engineered on closing into guides but hey ho. As for the lack of detail on embossed leather with the P101 logo that was on the as advertised model.
