Sadly, for your conundrum, I was in Kaikoura just over a year ago on a month's road-trip round the South Island .... a treasure trove for a dodgy amateur geologist like me ..... your pic triggered a memory .... then I confirmed it on the web .... would have been a mammoth google session otherwise !🙂

Yep that is what I thought . Once seen never forgotten, and the nearby seals add to the fun.

The Ivory Coast. I went there in the late 80s to Abidjan to install & commission a mayonnaise plant. From memory that church is bigger than St Peters in Rome.

JohnV6, correct✔️

This is Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix in Yamoussoukro. The largest Catholic church in the world.
Côte d’Ivoire was much more fun in the 80s than now. I visited the Abidjan area then.

Yes I stayed in the Novotel " downtown" & remember one guy walking stark naked down the street at lunch time. They were fishing from wooden canoes in the lagoon & I came home with some lovely wooden carvings of a god & .a French colonialist

I visited the old capital and bought some sand cast bronze masks direct from the foundry. I can still see the young children wire brushing the sand off.

I avoided the palm heart wine sold in cocnut halves from grubby plastic half barrels and the bar snack of live soft shell crabs threaded on a string.

It was very poor and a first introduction to sub Saharan Africa which gripped me every since.

Yes I got our car stuck in the mud / guano there if it is where I think. A lovely spot.
