I found the pics......I used printed circuit board for backing but aluminium would also work.

I also wonder if cars with a rear bumper have longer exhaust tailpipes to clear the bumper ?

I have played around with a number of options on the pre cat +8. Extended the rear pipes but then caught my lower leg on them occasionally when filling up. Extension pipes curving downwards. But the best solution is side pipes. If driving for many hours I wear ear plugs. Had a set made by a company that specialises in ear plugs for musicians. They 3D scan your ear then print the plugs and you can fit different decibel restrictors. Very comfortable and were £90 three years ago.

If I have to go this way that is a good tip.

I have leak tested the exhaust and found a good few leaks, I obviously used too little paste on the joints either side of the cat. I've re-done all the joints and it leak tests OK. T'was a bit too wet here yesterday for a test but might be manage a test run today. I'll let you know the result.

John, I don't want to worry you but when I bought a new cat for my old 4/4, there was a warning not to use exhaust sealing paste upstream of the cat as it could damage the matrix if it gets inside.

Also invalidates the warranty.

See warning label below.

Hopefully none of it got squeezed inside.

That was exactly why I used so little paste on the first try. But on the Club sport exhaust there is a "slide in" fit joint before the cat so what is one supposed to do? It's not a design that's fit for purpose, it should really be a flanged joint with a proper gasket.

On the brighter side a test run did show that it was a great improvement on the previous test. So I think it's on to the mud flap mod and let's see what that brings.

Just the latest info.
I thought the sports exhaust was a bit loud anyway. So I've reinstalled the original silencer, rear pipe and tail pipe and it's much better. Fumes are only present when booting it, which was normal before the mods. Performance seem as it should be too.

I've also taken the car to the MOT garage and it passes the emission tests with flying colours, so that's a bonus.
Off to the dyno soon.
