Good Morning All!

I have finally been approved at long last so I can update you on progress/questions/etc directly. Great! Today's job is to tie up some loose ends.

1. There has been chatter about indicator timeout. My Morgan loom simulator has not shown this to be the case. It will flash away for 5 minutes before I get bored and stop it. Chinese water torture test...Any ideas as to how long your auto-cancel lasts?
2. There is an input to the TSM that comes from the VSS and goes to the engine management system and instrument panel. It is not obvious what this does, but I should be able to track down the VSS and see what pin 2 does.

For your information, the failure is caused by high voltages on the 12V inputs destroying an IC. This dead IC internally conducts and feeds back 12V from the always active 12V Hazards supply back to the 12V ignition supply thus short-circuiting the ignition switch! Hence the motor will continue running with the key removed! This leakage current is probably sufficient to prevent the engine management system from resetting correctly so the engine will not start. I am old enough to not be surprised at 350V spikes on the 12V rail when the starter motor disengages, my first car was a Ford Corsair, HPL 99C.

My owners handbook says:

"the indicator will remain on at speeds of less than 10mph. However if the speed is above 10mph approx. then the indicators if activated will time out and cancel after 7 seconds. If the speed drops below 10mph before the 7 seconds then the indicators will remain on."

Beat me to it...though I sometimes get the feeling that there is also a random number generator involved in the cancelling of the indicators!

...and many thanks for putting the effort in to work out what the unit does. I also am very interested in having a plug in alternative ready for when or indeed before my indicator unit finally decides to give up the ghost.

This is precisely the behaviour of mine too. I've had some nasty voltage spikes when the OEM Regulator went west a few years back (nearly 18v showing at one point on the volt-meter I recall), but so far Flasher Module holding its own (famous last words...)

Needless to say, I'll add myself to the inevitably long list of those on here who'd like a reliable replacement, come the time!
