Yep the OBD port fuse blew on my Polo last week. That means all the steering wheel controls stopped working and the headlights were on permanently. Why the OBD port drives those god knows & mr VW doesn't explain in it's fuse wiring diagram so of to the garage we went as I had no idea what to do. My local garage talked to a VW parts supplier who said oh yeah sometimes they fail ( a feature no doubt), if not it needs a module & clock spring. They tested the circuits & fitted a new fuse, now I know what to check again.
The other option a new "module" & a "clock spring" was no doubt a less honest garage would have fitted.

I just want four wheels, an engine, brakes , body & steering wheel - a simple person wanting the simple life.
Me too, it's the raw experience that will elude the youngsters of the Playstation generation who want it all done for them. Couldn't agree more however, only Morgan owners present and past, would have enjoyed our trip yesterday with biblical amounts of rain. The hood on the SS fought me all the way and as for the side curtains, well I just didn't bother however, what a brilliant drive. It reminded me of our trip to the Mille Miglia where it also usually rains. Good job the Morgan sheepskins are well dubbined!! Those trips when you get soaked through are the true memory building one's

My pals BMW 3series e plug in hybrid had some software meltdown when only 3 months old and had to go in to the Dealer for a reset, when he drove it home it reverted to euro mode with speed in kph and other weird stuff.
It took another 2 days in the workshop to sort it, no mechanical issues, all electronic and way too complex

Even the "simple" 5 speed 3 wheeler suffers from the over complexity of modern vehicle electronics - see the thread on reworking the indicator module whose gremlins can stop the engine running properly.... http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthread...al-module-lets-build-a-better-one#UNREAD

I can understand the added tech due to emissions management and some safety features but why do modern cars get stuffed full of basically unnecessary added tech and gadgets? It increases cost, limits non dealer garage/diy work, causes distractions and ties you in to manufacturer/dealer use. I cannot understand the interlinking of so many added systems where a non essential system causes you problems that make the car undriveable meaning recovery is needed. It seems that manufacturers are playing a type of Top Trumps for having more added crap to their cars to entice buyers. I don’t even miss not having power steering on my Mog. I am, after all, a fit, relatively young Mog owner, healthy ex rugby playing powerhouse who uses the Mog for arm workouts.

I think you just answered your own question. This is a follow on from trying to restrict the access to the service management software and keep you buying vendor parts. They make less and less selling the actual cars but the margins are in repairs etc. The cars are actually breaking down less so the parts scam gets worse. Don't forget that compliance and all the safety nanny's are being pushed in by the governments as well.
It's called feature creep. A has feature 1 so B must have it. Sub-system suppliers that do the integration want to flog all parts to the vendors for better margin on their development work.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
