At some point, I will probably re-organise some of the switches and warning lights on my dashboard.
I had to get under the dash the other day for another reason (leaking washer tube connection) and started to look at the way it's all laid out.
However it's not as simple as it was on my old 4/4 and I just want to understand what is going on so I can also understand the limitations of what I might be able to do.
I can see 2 PCB areas.
One is the dash control module (DCM) and the other seems to be a very simple PCB connected to the DCM via ribbon type wiring to operate the warning lights. My guess is that the warning light PCB is just a simple way of putting 10 LEDs in line as a warning light cluster.
So to the questions.
1. Are all the dashboard instruments, lights and switches fed from and controlled by the DCM? 2. How does the warning light PCB ribbon attach to the DCM. Is there a simple connector or is it soldered? 3. Is the immobiliser also fed via the DCM or is it direct from the ECU? 4. Is the DCM readily available if one was to bugger up the original during ones ham fisted attempts to modify the dash layout? 5. Can the DCM be by-passed to separate some switches and waning lights etc? 6. Is the heater fan switch wired via the DCM?
Now this is only the opening salvo in my attempt to understand my new steed's dashboard so feel free to answer any questions I probably should have asked.
Of everything I've found so far this is probably the trickiest for me to get my head round (apart from all the EVAP systems by the petrol tank) so if we do have any Roadster S2 dashboard gurus on here, help please.

Hi Bob
I cannot answer all of your questions however I can answer some. The DCM is still available only through Morgan and the cost is circa £600. It is quite a complex and compact PCB and unless you are very good at electronics I would leave well alone. I have removed the DCM previously to work on the dashboard, that alone is not to difficult. The board contains amongst other things an audible sounder for the indicators and mine have ceased working so I decided to fit an aftermarket sounder to let me know when the indicator was engaged. I took the car into a main dealer for the annual MOT and it failed on hazzards not working !! To keep it short the dealer told me that the DCM was very sensitive to add ons, and quoted me the above figure to teplace the board. I told him to remove my audible unit just in case. The good news having removed the audible unit the hazzards were working again, MOT resolved and saved £600 plus fitting. I would leave well alone Alan

Removing the dash to fit a clock is as brave as I'm going to get. My philosophy when it comes to stuff like this is: "if in doubt ... don't!"

I'd love to get rid of the abortion (DCM) its a disgrace to automobile engineering, i believe the company that manufactured it is now defunct, if not it should be. I've tagged my driving lamps onto the spare relay on the circuit board successfully and operating them from the spare switch (aircon in some cars i believe). I haven't gone any further but looking at it from the manufacturers design perspective they'll have had an I/O (INPUT/OUTPUT ) list from Morgan or its electrical sub contractor to manufacture from and the utilized the technology they had within their company, not very compatible with Morgan engineering one might say! It may be a winter job one of these days

Thanks above.
At £600 for a new DCM, I might need to be a bit more circumspect with the dashboard layout and perhaps change my plans to leave it well alone for the time being.
I did think there might be someone on here who had been through a dashboard layout change on a Roadster S2 but I might be getting confused with another model.
Any more info ???
