Hi everyone,

haven't posted since I got the Morgan because, quite frankly, I've been having far too much fun driving the thing!!

Just a reminder.....it's a 1975 4/4 4seater and what I would like to know is, can the static front belts be replced with reel inertia? and has anyone done this?

I would imagine that the unit may be a little bulky and this may be the limiting factor in placing it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have a look at this site. http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop/viewproducts.aspx?plateindexID=15506 If you can't find something similar in Australia check to make sure you can import seatbelts before ordering. There may be some regulation that prohibits the import of seat belts that do not have Australian Standards approval. If all else fails get someone to hand carry them for you.

The reels do not look too big or ugly but you would need to see which can be adapted to your car. It depends very much where the secure mounting points are and how the existing belts are mounted. I would not change the existing mounting points without expert advice. I have not seen how the belts are mounted in your car but fixed seatbelts usually have 3 point mounting. For the rear the Type B may be possible and for the front Type A using the existing upper mount as the upper mount/turning point and mounting the reel at floor level. This would need to be mounted securely to the chassis of the car.

I did this on my previous Morgan, a 1981 Morgan 4/4 4-seater. The reels were placed on the same mounting points as the original seat belts on top of the rear wheel arcs. Be warned that the inertia reels may make a little noise on bad road surfaces, but my 4/4 had a side exit sports exhaust system which drowned most other sounds.

I was thinking that the only place where there was room for the unit would be on the wheel arch in the existing bolt hole.

I lived nearly all my life in Australia, mainly in the Sydney region but also a few years in the Port Macquarie/Wauchope region. I would love to take a Morgan for a run up the Oxley Highway to Walcha

Neil: If the mounting is on the wheel arch and you decide on the Securon belts I guess the following type of kit would be the most suitable. If it is available in Oz.

Type B: Adjustable Reel Seat Belt Kits
These seat belt kits are a 3 point mounting and use a retractor reel that can be mounted in most positions, it can then be adjusted to operate correctly using the special mechanism. The webbing is then retained at the sill mounting. The buckle is retained at the tunnel mounting. Available with a choice of buckle lengths.
