Hi, Does anyone know where I can source a quality old style front number plate with silver letters and numbers on a black background. I know you are not supposed to use them on a 1996 car but I have read on here of some people using them. Every firm I have tried won't make them for this year of car. Cheers paul.

Paul, if the company is reputable they won't make the plates as they should have sight of your V5 and hence know that your proposed car doesn't comply with the relevant date for black n silver plates

I believe some firms will make 'show' plates not for road use 😏
Not tried myself as mine is 40+ and ok for the old plates

What if you were only going to use them for display or concours purposes. I.e. NOT FOR HIGHWAY USE

There is a company over in N. Ireland who will make almost anything you want but do beware, there is a video on u-tube by the Police explaining the new rules about number plates and, at the end of the day, why bother, you have a beautiful car and you can't see the plates when you are driving.

Expect most people are aware that although you may have a warning first time you are caught with incorrect plates, repeat offending carries a fine of up to £1000!

Whilst aware of the rules around number-plates I appreciate that we all have differing tastes. Thing is I'm of the view that Black and silver plates just look wrong on a newer car - even a Morgan. I wasn't always of the view - i had a set made up ( ebay as "showplates") but after trying them i just thought they looked silly frankly. If the plate was of the dateless type i think it would look OK . Good illustration of clear and amber indicators too i guess.
