During normal driving I have no problems with the steering. No hint of vibration over a range of speeds. Very slight steering wheel play whilst stationery. However, I clipped a sunken drain with the NSF wheel doing about 50mph and the subsequent vibration or wobble was quite alarming!! I eased off the accelerator, allowed the car to slow down and eventually at around 20mph all was back to normal. Driving thereafter was normal. Some days later ( and about 60 miles covered) and exactly the same thing happened. Anyone point me in the right direction of what to check?

I had the same experience some time ago. Quite scary. Problem was wheel balance.

Hi Gary,
I would suspect that you lost a balance weight when you hit the pot hole and as MOR404 suggests it's a wheel balance problem.
I would suggest that you pop along to a tyre shop and have the n/s wheel balanced.
hope this helps

Gary,
Which model of car. Also what year and mileage?
Surely if it was a dislodged wheel weight the wobble would manifest itself every time Gary went above a certain speed. Maybe 50ish.
Why would he get a period of no problem then a sudden return after about 60 miles?

Hi guys. I'm with Ivor Mog. Strange that another grid strike some days later caused exactly the same symptoms, but no issues between the 2 incidents. I'd expect losing a weight to manifest itself as vibration most of the time. The wobble was significant when it first happened. Caused me some concern.

Have you checked that the initial "pothole" incident didn't break the diagonal crosshead brace? Or the lower tie bar.

Have you checked that the initial "pothole" incident didn't break the diagonal crosshead brace? Or the lower tie bar. The diagonal tie rod was also in my thoughts. They usually break where the threads finish at the lower end where they are screwed into a lug that is then located onto the chassis. Not always obvious unless you look really close and give the rod a shake.

Diagonal tie rod? I'll have a look.
