Say guys, I am putting in a new tire and trying to get the belt adjusted just right. Any advice based on these photos? I used same size tire as original. Also, how tight to make the axel nut: it backed off a bit when it stopped to slip in cotter pin. Do I want to make it super f'ing tight (go to next cotter pin hole?). ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/05/30/new-tire-3.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/05/30/new-tire-2.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/05/30/new-tire-1.jpg)

You want it super tight. Your wheel and tire do not look centered to me, could be the angle the photo was taken, but it looks like it is pointed a bit to the left. As a starting point I will lay a yardstick on the belt, inline with the edge the belt and run it back far enough to cross both edges of the tire. Adjust positioning until there is equal space between both sidewalls and the edge of the yardstick.. Tighten the axle bolts, rotate the tire and see how the belt tracks. I took an old unused (aren't they all) treadmill l and reversed the wiring so it would run backwards. With the rear of the trike on jack stands and the transmission in neutral, I slide the edge of the treadmill under the rear tire so that the treadmill will run the tire. This allows me to adjust tire alignment as it runs in a safe manner. Make sure the belt has no opportunity to touch the side wall. The belt is much stronger than the sidewall of the tire and will chew it up risking a sidewall blowout ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/05/30/treadmill.jpg)

It also looks like there are bits of belt being left on the little half fender. I cut a notch in mine so it would not hit it.

usually the saying is "tighten until it breaks and back off 1/4 turn" in this case,"f'in" is about right
I fittled and fittled with centering. Ran it multiple times whilst the rear wheel was raised. Like medicine, it is science, but then again it is an art

I agree with Lance in that your wheel alignment is ‘out’, and yes the nut should be tight, very tight...

FT every time.
200lbs/ft on the torque wrench then tighter until the "r" clip goes through the hole.
Never had any movement.

Okay, I will turn to next hole for cotter pin. I am worried about messing with the bearings if too tight. I think the belt is in position.

they are not tapered bearings so you cannot over tighten like you might with tapers
