As some may be aware I had a stroke last year which took me and the Speedster off the road. I have now been passed as fit to drive again by the Occupational Therapists and Advanced Driving Instructors- so it is time to crank up the Speedster. It has been in the garage on pumped up tyres and a trickle charger with the cut-out applied. Any handy tips on what to do/ not to do on first start up? I am very much looking forward to getting out in the machine this weekend

That is good news. This might help. If you didn't add stabiliser to the petrol it might run a bit rough & need new fuel adding. https://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/morganstorage.pdf

Fantastic news, I SORN mine for 6 months over the winter and along with a charger just fill the tank with 98. Then it's just check the tyre pressures before starting her up and get straight out for a gentle drive to warm things up nicely. It would be nice to be able to spin it up without the ignition to get the oil pressure up first, but I'm not sure how to do this with the BMW V8.
Enjoy that tingle of anticipation as you reach for the button and the drive that follows!

Wonderful JB, restored to good health and with the best Morgan ever made ready and waiting (but I'm a bit biased).
If the lost year if COVID has taught me anything it is that life is for living, and every day is to be enjoyed as much as possible. I drive Tarka everywhere I can, today is no exception!

That's good news.
I think I read on another thread that one smart move is to pull the fuel pump fuse in the smart box and turn it over on the starter for a while to make certain it is all smooth.
We want photos of the first run!
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

As per DavidR's comments - get as much Shell V-Power in the tank as soon as you can to mix with the older fuel left in there and obviously check all the other fluid levels before you go out - my Aero seems to lose a little coolant every time I put it back in the garage, must some kind of complaint at being back in the garage! Great news - agree with the fuel advice, it is shocking how quick it goes off these days. As mentioned, stick some high grade fuel in to dilute the old stuff, and I'd stick something like StarTron enzyme in to combat the effects of the old fuel.
Took a couple of tank fulls to sort out my old crossflow after a 3 month lay up, and she's far less sensitive.

That's great news about your recovery, enjoy your first drive out.
I've just put my duratec through the MOT after sitting idle over the winter, failed on emmisions, filled up with Esso supreme and did 10 miles or so, tried again and it passed. Coincidence? The tester seemed to think that's what made the difference.
