Hi all hope you are well and enjoying the great weather although today rain stopped play on the decking repair and painting front.

Just a question re the factory fitment boot rack, i ordered one when i bought the car from Melvyn Rutter and was informed it was on back order from the factory (presumably they wait for a decent batch to manufacture)

Whats the normal wait time ? as we are planning a trip to Holland in August and i don't think her indoors will be happy with the already snug space taken up with luggage.

I was in the same position as you a few years ago when looking for a rack.

The original supplier (HoE) was out of stock , but John Worral advised me to try a couple of dealers , and sure enough Berrybrook had one , which they posted to me the next day.

Appreciate that you may be committed to Melvyn, but i would ring around and see if one can be obtained elsewhere , or try a different supplier altogether (Librands rather than the factory option)

Back at the beginning of February Morgan were quoting end of March for delivery of the new style luggage rack (the one that clamps onto the roll hoops). I took that as meaning they wouldn’t actually be available until May or later. I did check with other dealers (KH were mine) and neither Williams nor Melvyn Rutter had one. As I didn’t want to take delivery of my car without a rack, I got my dealer to order me one of the old style racks (where the roll hoops need to be drilled). These are known as the Australian rack. Morgan had one of those in stock so that’s what I now have on my car.

The Part number for the Australian style rack is M3W6015.

I bought an 'Australian' rack too and then sourced some roll bar / bull bar clamp fittings that the rack fits into to avoid having to drill the roll bars.

For a while there I was thoroughly confused. I'm in West Texas, so I kept looking at my Tony Lama Ropers, and wondering if Morgan offered some type of rack where I could store them in the car. I further imagined that it would be totally cool to have a rifle rack installed right above the exhaust of my 3W, and a headache rack on the roll bars to round out the image.
Then I came back to reality, understanding that the term "boots" is not universally understood as manly footwear, (as Merle Haggard sang)

Dang, now I have an image of an M3W with a Winchester rifle slung by the driver above the exhaust… and cow horns mounted on the bonnet / “hood”

Well, obviously you would need to have a rifle scaboard mounted alongside the windscreen with the bottom tucked in behind the exhaust. Much like they did on the WWII American bikes:


For those of you with a Spitfire edition, I see the potential for an upgrade!

If you pack sensibly with the right sort of clothing you don't need a luggage rack, many bikers manage with less storage. We have done trips with two of us away for about two weeks without a rack. A bag will fit down the passenger footwell in addition to packing the boot fully. You just need to travel light, think about what you need and take the right sort of clothing that washes and dries easily. Or you can pack everything onto a luggage rack, unpack it every 200 miles to refuel, be top heavy, wallow on corners and increase the already dire aerodynamics of the M3W and then transport it all to and from your accommodation stops. It really just takes a bit of thought and planning, rather than thinking how to increase the load capacity, and you save the cost of a rack.
