Hi everyone,

I need some help. The car in question is my +8 -98 with the 4.6-litre engine.
Now it does not start. I can hear the relay clicking. But the starter motor seems dead.

Last week the car had a little issue with the cooling fan. When investigating that, for a while I thougt that the relay for the fan had failed.
But in the investigation of that I mixed up which realy is which. I ment to test the cooling fan by manually closing the circuit that normally is closed by the relay.
But since I mixed them up, I accidently started the starter motor. Only for like a second.
Now when I wanted to go for a spin to see if the colling fan works as it should, the car does not start.

Fuel pump starts as it shoud, and I can hear (and feel) the starter relay doing its job. But the starter motor does not run.

Any ideas on what the problem might be?

Best regards

Björn, Sweden

I would check the starter motor voltage itself firstly and work backwards into the feed circuit. The relay coil maybe operating but the contacts are faulty.

Diagrams are on gomog which are as accurate as any Morgan fuse card laugh2

Good luck

Thank you for the tips. It sent me off in the right direction.

The relay was working, but there was a bad contact in the wiring to the relay. So no current to the starter motor.
It turned out to be a cable going to the starter relay that had moved a bit when I was fiddling with the cooling fan relay next to it.
So even if the relay was fully seated, there was bad contact to the relay.

I pushed that cable into it´s correct place and then the car started.
Happy happy, joy joy.
