Have to say I'm horrified when I see those one metre plus breaker bars in use to tighten spinners. The torque they allow such to be tightened to is scary in the wrong hands. Having said that you may need one to undo spinners over tightened by same, fighting fire with fire!

I admit to owning a 600mm breaker bar but use and carry with me one of those pressed steel spinner tools, little over 400mm in length. A few heaves on that tightens and removes to what I regard as sensible torque.

I always use hand tight plus a quarter turn.

Just checked my Britool breaker bar. 58cm knuckle to very the end, 50cm ‘ish to where I would apply pressure. I am fairly lightweight so I feel this is okay. Watched the garage hammer my rears on then a few days later removed them for cleaning using the breaker. Expected a fight but they came off almost too easily! The front ones I had earlier tightened with the bar came off with a similar level of grunt as those the garage had hammered on. So I think I am happy enough with the breaker

Would be someone near Cambridge? laugh2 laugh2 hide I agree Richard you don't need much to get them tight.

Despite only lightly tightening (40lbs ish) I have to use a scaffolding pole extension to breaker bar & some heat to undo the centre nut. They self tighten over about 3 months. In my case removing the wheel roadside would be impossible.

There's a difference between stainless and powder coated wires.

The powder coat grabs the nut. When I had black wires I had the same problem, that only heat and a lot of force would undo the nuts.

With stainless wires that has never happened.

I should have said that what I have described, above, is with stainless wheels.

Today I took off the passenger side front which for some reason is always the tightest. After less that 3 months it needed the full extension bar.
I used to use the hammer method but on the road side it will need a lot of repeated umph.
