ALL QUIET: Earth's magnetic field is quiet and expected to remain so for the next 3 days. Geomagnetic activity could resume on June 15th when a stream of solar wind is expected to reach Earth. The gaseous material is flowing from a Southern hole in the sun's atmosphere.

So, possibility of visual aurora smile

SOLAR WIND, INCOMING: A high-speed stream of solar wind is approaching Earth. ETA: June 15-16. The gaseous material is flowing from a Southern hole in the sun's atmosphere and could spark high-latitude auroras when it arrives?

GEOMAGNETIC UNREST THIS WEEK: Minor geomagnetic unrest is likely on June 15-16 when a stream of solar wind hits Earth's magnetic field. The gaseous material is flowing from a Southern hole in the sun's atmosphere. A waxing crescent Moon will not interfere with possible high-latitude auroras.

Sadly, we're in the part of our year up here when it doesn't get dark enough all night to see the lights even if they're there .... will be another month or six weeks til it's dark enough before midnight to catch them ....
On the bright side plenty of dark nights to come and we're moving closer each year to the cyclic maximum.

Thanks for the updates though Graham, they are appreciated

Graham .... This was half past midnight last night ..... be a while before the lights can compete with that 🙂

I do appreciate your warnings of possible sightings ..... do I presume your primary interest is around the ionospheric disturbance effecting your radio transmissions??

Lovely shot Keith. More than 15 years since I was that far north (a week in a "cottage" at Culkein Drumbeg) but that was in early September, so we didn't have the same late sun smile It was the last year with my collie-X. Bought the first Morgan the following summer.

Yes, my interest relates to radio, a hobby and for many years a profession that I have been involved in. I've held off posts for the last week knowing you won't see anything, but also there has been little to post as far as possible visual aurora. The service will return smile

EARTH'S MAGNETIC FIELD IS ABOUT TO BE UPSET: First, a solar wind stream. Then, two CMEs. That's what's heading our way in the next three days. High-speed solar wind is expected to graze Earth's magnetic field on Aug. 25th, potentially followed by weak CME strikes on Aug. 26th and 27th. Geomagnetic unrest could spark auroras around the darkening Arctic Circle?
