My favourite oil for my Roadster is the ESP 5W-30. But what about the oil to the right- also a 5w-30, fully synthetic like the ESP. Are they equally good?[Linked Image]

The Mobil Super XE is a good quality every day oil, medium SAPS 0.8% ash

The ESP claims to cover more specs than the XE.

Again a mid SAPS oil but with better fuel economy and a more aggressive internal engine cleaning regeme.

Therefore the ESP is a longer drain interval oil that works with more demanding after treatment exhaust systems.

Basically a higher spec oil.

Thank you! This is actually all the information I need that makes it easy to continue using the ESP thumbs

Another tick in the box for the ESP is that it is "Mobil 1" which is the brand's leading oil, as used in Formula 1 for many years and has always been promoted as the company's most advanced and high performance fully synthetic oil - usual adage of you get what you pay for...

Paul,

F1 racing engines are stripped down after every race and rebuilt.

Oils that are sold for road cars have say a years at the least before needing changed depending on mileage and other factors.

Can you link to any source that defines exactly which of the Mobil One range of oils is used in F1 racing.

Graham Bell wrote a book...
Modern Engine Tuning.
He has a chapter on oils. He has done tests on “ mule engines” he uses for comparison tests. He concludes that Mobil 1 comes out best. He measures engine parts before and after for wear, monitors cooling, mpg etc as part of his tests.
I use the Mobil 2000. It has a good additive mix for the Rover V8 ( zinc compound to protect the tappets/valves.).
