"...the slots in the cover from manufacture still have the spacer washers fitted" --> so the ventilation seems still not enough with this small slots in the cover. Seems the CNC milling solution from the italian producer could be a nice way to solve this problem.

I am sure the CNC milled cover will solve the problem but the washers are only a few pence and work as well. Any ventilation improvement will be a bonus, I doubt you can have too much.

I dont like the spacers in between the motor housing and the cam cover because of air and rain water.
i ran the spacer solution for over 25,000 miles with no ill effects. This included torrential rain and deep puddles/fords. Simple, cheap and effective.

The belt debris is normal, as Mark says. S&S describe it as "snake skin" and it is the release agent from belt manufacture. There is also a cutout at the base of the cam cover that has been there since the start, probably to let the crank seal oil leakage out. I like the machined spacers on the later covers, I just super glue the washers in place to make things easier.
There does seem to have been a bad batch of belts about and they have shown signs of cracking after just a few thousand miles, well worth checking them regularly. In theory the belt life is 3 years or 30,000 miles (with the vented cover) but "on condition" seems sensible. It is a "safe" engine as the valves and pistons don't try and occupy the same space if the cam belt fails, always nice to know.
Is that right, Planenut? This is the first I have heard of a 3 year replacement advisory. I thought it was just by mileage. I better get mine replaced if that is true.

Planenut has a good idea with the super gluing the spacers in place, makes the entire removal and replacement of the cover much easier.
The belts do shed a bit and keeping an eye on them is another good idea, and the main reason I put a clear cover on mine.

I see 3 including the Italian company mentioned in this thread (but didnt check the alternative parts list...) plus I think Krazy Horse had a vented non-transparent option? I have not seen the 30,000 miles or 3 year cam belt life written down anywhere but was told that is what it is by a Morgan workshop person after doing the cover venting and getting the cam chest upgrade done, FOC at that time. I still think that "on condition" is a sensible way of doing it, I check my cam belt condition every Winter service.

Ventilation requires airflow so the combination of the front vents and spacers provides such flow

That Given Motodesign air cleaner assembly is interesting. I think I saw one that was totally clear somewhere.
