Hey folks, been a while since I’ve been on these pages but trying to help a friend, who’s looking for his first trad. He’s looking at this car at newelms https://www.newelms.com/car-sales/ the dark blue 4/4 at 24k. His budget actually runs a bit higher to 30-35k, so my thinking was maybe he wants to go plus 4, roadsters look out of reach at that kind of budget. Any suggestions (apart from telling him to come register here!)

Have you looked at Car and Classic Site? There are a few plus4 in his budget range. There is a nice Red one at Perranwell Morgan Garage Cornwall.

With very little effort your friend has a huge choice at his price point. Maybe worth acquainting him with the MMC carfinder site.. MMC 4/4's.

Ah yes the MMC site is where I acquired one of my Aeros back in 2009, good call. I terms of what to go for at that kind of price point is would you lean more to 4/4 or Plus 4 or is it just all personal taste really? Sorry if that’s a dumb question, but it will help!

He needs to find "a few" and drive as many as he can, that way he will know.

If he likes a lithe chuckable car the 4/4 Sport is where he needs to be but if he is more of a tourer/cruiser I would suggest a Plus 4, whatever he goes for invest as much as his budget allows as it will pay in the long run. He would get a very good 4/4 Sport for the money without getting involved in all the GDI nonsense that is ongoing with the later Plus 4's as people have had to invest a lot of money putting the factory cars right. I can appreciate your position here, always difficult being put there right on the spot My pick would be this one at Uncle Melvyns, A Sport with some useful extras for touring/comfort which are removable should you chose to and at the lower end of his budget with 14,000miles on it. That Sigma power unit is an absolute joy to play with.

Try a couple out - nothing wrong with a 4/4 - it`s a perfect Morgan - in my opinion - I have no thought of "trading up". Tell him also join the MSCC then he can get the ads in miscellany and also pick the brains of those in his local centre. I`d worry about the state of a car 30 years old with 5k on the clock - averages 170 miles per year. Unless someone has done it, it will need major refurb of pipes, tubes and engine etc.- sorry that`s just my opinion - it may have been rebuilt and done 4k in the last year - but it needs investigating.

You can get a roadster for 35k. He needs to try several cars till his car finds him
