Inadequate to explain all conditions but still useful for most. Our knowledge and understanding is changing all the time, there are no immutable truths - save possibly the laws of Mathematics.

I'm constantly surprised by people's failure to understand how science works, but sadly I'm not in the least bit surprised by the willingness of politicians to declare that they are 'following the science' when in fact they are doing no such thing at all.

Thank you!

It seems (to my great frustration, I must add) that science is too often regarded and treated as “just another opinion”.

Science is just like medicine there will always be pioneering groundbreakers who will not always be "right" with the benefit of hindsight, but without these brave people putting their reputations on the line there would be no progression at all.

Marie Curie for example.
Her biography written by her daughter is an epic journey, I was given a hardcopy of it by a German pharmacist lady friend of ours.

Indeed. As Isaac Asimov said

“The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

Have to admit to agreeing with the sentiment of this vid on Democracy and politicians... And never more so when I contemplate how it came to pass that BoJo and Trumpet became the prime decision makers in the UK and US...??

I do not know enough to have an educated opinion on EV, other that I would be all in if it were proven to be the best answer long term. As the owner of a diesel as advised by past govt, and having changed to a gas combi boiler, again guided by politicians... I`ll stick with the thinking in the vid for now.

Interesting brief summary of prblems with E10. OK its by a boat engine maker but it is still valid. I was not aware of the phase seperation risk

Mercury engines

For what its worth, boat engines being usually more exposed to water and in sail boats using far less fuel are prone to water / fuel interfaces of the sort described above. ASt these interfaces we get growths of fungi (?) forming a black slime and which does an excellent job of blocking filters pumps and injectors. Doesnt normally happen in diesel cars thanks to high fuel throughput ( small amounts of water just get through the engine) but now might be an issue if phase seperation occurs in a classic petrol engine. Its also already an issue with planes.

The super unleaded may be marked as E5 so there may be up to 5% ethanol in it, there may be none. At a Tesco petrol station on Fri 16th July the regular unleaded pump was marked as E10 despite the being a notice on the pump saying the change from E5 was happening from September. The Momentum super unleaded pump was marked E5

This is a long thread so apologies if I or someone has already mentioned it but for 95% of the country esso Synergy + is free of ethanol
