So you can control them from your Smart phone.

Another reason for me to delay the whole thing....and hope for perhaps a more individually private solution to motoring.

Fair enough. I grew up in a small rural village where everyone knew everything about everyone, so the idea of personal privacy is all a bit alien to me anyway

There's a big difference for me between privacy from neighbours and privacy from a group of people who could halt everything about my life with the flick of a switch. I've never got past the idea that having an open internet connection is like walking into a pub and putting your open wallet on the bar, hoping no-one will empty it.
I just prefer as much autonomy as possible, whilst fully appreciating that total autonomy is not possible.

Yes, of course you are quite right, please excuse my flippancy. The security on a lot of these IoT devices is appalling and one should be rightly very wary especially if giving access to one's home wifi through the firewall.

And you are typing this on a computer or phone believing you are completely safe?

Consumer easy to use items are more likely to be compromised without you even realising it.

Lock down your router to known to you mac addresses , don't allow anyone visiting your household to use your wifi if you are really concerned about security, or if really concerned get rid of all your internet connectivity, only use a very simple basic calls and text only phone.

Bit harsh I did say that I appreciated total autonomy not possible. Of course typing this isn't completely safe.
Going back to the electric theme...
I've just read a serious review that concludes current EVs need to do 50000 miles to "break even" on world damage and cost. So it seems to me that the ideal purchaser is someone who will do lots of miles in shorter journeys. Commuting, for instance. In my situation now, where the family runaround does about 6T a year maximum, usually far less, (and that will include journeys of 300 miles or more) , I think I'm just not the target customer. I wouldn't hesitate to go that way if I was. I've nothing against electric vehicles, in fact they offer intriguing options.
