It's not about missing the point, it about MMC missing an opportunity to build a classic looking car with the advantages of modern material.

As far as torque is concerned, going on the figures published, 115lbs/ft doesn't strike me as being particularly strong for a 2 litre, in fact, it's decidedly average, although of course it may make peak torque at 1500rpm and hold it all the way to 5000rpm, in which case it is at least making the most of what it has got.

I seriously considered a Triking, for obvious reasons, a few years back, but wanted something a bit more comfortable, and to tell the truth so did I. Actually I still have the brochures posted to me about 20 years ago!

I think it a shame however that Morgan did not do a deal with Tony Divey (he is a Morgan 3 Wheeler fan of the old school). They could have bought a proven British design and then added the Morgan touch of wood and aluminium.

I have to say that I prefer the new Morgan 3 shape to that of the Triking. I do think that the Guzzi engine would work well in this car. (but then I am biased, aren't I)

As you can see from this thread, Gerwyn and I visited Triking which is now owned by Allan Layzell (he worked for Tony Divey who retired for health reasons) as we were both interested and like you, I had previously had details of the cars many moons ago! Allan did mention during the visit that he had built a prototype Morgan 3-wheeler for Morgan, though the approach was through BRA and not direct from MMC. This featured sliding pillar front suspension and in Allan's opinion was not a success.

MMC obviously agreed with this viewpoint and that is why despite many rumours, the 3-wheeler built for the Centenary was the pedal car. Interestingly the BRA prototype became available for sale and details of this were posted here. I don't know it's current whereabouts, can anyone else enlighten us?

After the Triking visit I did mention to some of the senior management at MMC that I was seriously thinking of buying a Triking and that was when they said to hold fire, as a M3W was in the offing. Not too long afterwards they flew to Seattle and the rest as they say is history.

I now await delivery of my Morgan 3W, which is currently in build, but still have a soft spot for the Triking which from my laymans perspective does look very well engineered and built, though I have never driven one I am sure it is a case of what looks right; is right!
