Don't think I'd go that far, it will be a fringe thing, like riding horses...

I despair of the politicians here: what the UK does, in terms of reducing CO2 output, is unimportant on a global stage. The gross polluter economies can't/won't do anything meaningful, so the climate will get worse: I believe that the planet is very probably past the point of no return and their is no point pretending token changes, like moving from 5% to 10% ethanol in the UK, will do anything.
That being said, we do our bit where it makes sense, but accept that the climate is out of the control of the UK Governments, or anyone else, so we are not going to put on a hair shirt and self flagellate, rather we shall carry on just as we are.

Hydrogen requires 3 times as much energy input to produce than keeping electricity in the same energy format.

If there isn't enough electricity capacity for pure electric where do you get the 3 times as much from for producing hydrogen?

Maybe do a little research before swallowing the diatribes that the oil industry is pushing through various media outlets.

There is a understandable need for a mixture of cleaner energy formats, not some petty format war, I for one seriously believe in larger batteries fuel cell vehicles, so that you can charge up the battery and us it like a BEV, and top up with hydrogen for longer journeys especially in cooler climates, just design it with the right balance between the 2.

Unfortunately a lot of the Japanese manufacturers are being hounded by the pure EV fans for not following suit on the BEV front, I believe they are waiting until battery production isn't supply constrained with a lot of manufacturers going that way at the moment before the new planned battery factories are online. Probably a shrewd move to save paying over the odds for cells in a heated up market place.

I was reading the Autocar article on Volvo's investment in advanced battery technologies and it strikes me that when we read this we are also reading about China in general driving to BEV more aggressively due to the existing issues in their cities. It will be interesting to see how the solution rolls out to the other Company's in the the Geely group. I do not say that to insult them or make an anti-China position but just that they do seem to have an appetite for innovation where I do not see this from many of the more traditional brands. Or maybe I just read the article in isolation?

These 2 organisation are 2 of the largest in the CV market in the world and seem to be moving at a pace. Volvo Trucks is of course not owned by Geely.

The UK also has a number of significant well funded start ups in this sector which is forcing the rate of change in the traditional brands

I see the UN has released another doomsday report, it seems to be mainly hand wringing and gloom with no substantial plan to change anything.

It is pointless as those with real power, like China, to reduce CO2 are not prepared to face the social changes that would be associated with the changes.
Others, like India simply cannot do so, it is not for nothing that India is called, by many Indians, the world's largest ungovernable true democracy.
Even in Germany politics trump logic, otherwise why shut down nuclear and continue to use coal and brown coal fuelled power stations?

Over the next 50 years climate change will annually kill more people than Covid. This is just the earth trying to balance things, according to the Gaia Hypothesis, which says that Earth and its biological systems behave as a huge single entity. This entity has closely controlled self-regulatory negative feedback loops that keep the conditions on the planet within boundaries that are favorable to life. At the moment there are too many of us, and we need culling to restore the balance.

As Agent Smith says.......Humans behave like a virus, expanding constantly and using resources without finding equilibrium.

There will be forced migration as hotter areas become uninhabitable. It's not a good prospect.

Guy Martin on Ch4 - worlds fastest EV.....

Interesting bit where he did Grimsby to JOG and back in one of the new Hyundai Ioniq - using fast chargers. Lots of them didn't work, and in the end it cost £260 in electric - equivalent cost on diesel would have been £140.

Hispano Suiza Carmen. It's an electric "hyper-lux" that goes from zero to 60mph in 2.6 seconds.




Designed, developed and built in Spain, this particular car has been in northeastern Florida since the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance back in May. Top end on it is 185mph, but that's electronically controlled. The rep wouldn't divulge how fast it would go without the governor on it, only saying, with a wry grin, "quite a bit faster. around $2,000,000.
