I agree Phil, the average man can't afford to buy a Tesla outright but then again does the average man purchase outright these days? Going by my daughters friends, none whatsoever.

My wife is going ahead with a PCP on a two seater Smart car and she can fund the majority of the PCP on what she was spending on Petrol. With the journeys she does she will only need to change at home where her view is that the electricity will be free as I pay the electricity bill.

So I'll stand by my comment that the average man on the street can't afford a Tesla.
Or a Morgan. Or any number of new cars. Or in fact any new car if the average is now £38k (according to Carflation). Somebody must be buying new cars. The landed gentry I assume. PS - Autotrader has used Teslas from £26k.... Still too much I guess.

Getting pretty realistic now. Average price paid for a used car in the UK is around £21k apparently according to SMMT. £25k is certainly the top end of my sweet spot, the trouble is I need a hatchback or estate rather than a saloon, and Model X is way out of my budget.

The wife had a succession of Smart cabriolets for 19 years and thoroughly enjoyed them.

Brilliant, my wife operates with exactly the same logic

Still got two years left of repayments.Am encouraged by the price of PCP so if I have to get an EV will probably go that route when my hand is forced.

Affordability is very subjective, in my experience an individual's priorities and available resources and the application of those resources changes over time.
Buying an EV is not high on my current priority list for many reasons beyond just the relative debate on affordability.

For the last 6 years I’ve been ordering a company car on a 3 year cycle saying this will probably be my last combustion engined company car but each time it just doesn’t seem to add up when travelling long distances for business
Just ordered another diesel BMW 5 series for September which I’ll have for 3 years
Maybe, maybe this will be my last before going electric
