Does anyone know where the engine temperature sensor is on a 1990 +8 EFi? I've fitted the new water pump and lost the temperature gauge. I've found a sensor on the block but nothing is connected to it and there's no obvious loose connector. Presumably the ECU is getting a temperature reading from somewhere. Wiring diagrams for the early 3.9 +8's are non-existent though GoMoG have some on their website.
Thanks

My 1999 +8 (which is Hotwire not Flapper EFi) has the water temperature sensor for the gauge in the radiator, not the engine. If you removed the radiator to install the new pump have you checked the connections with the electrics. One set is the otter switch which signals the need for the fan , and the other is the temperature gauge. One is at the top of the radiator , the other at the bottom.

I agree that the ecu probably gets its reading from elsewhere (someone like Mike Smith (Teknome on here) is the guru on the electronics, I hope he will be along soon to advise.

The water temperature sender on my hotwire 1994 +8 is on top of the engine block (vertical orientation) at the front behind the distributor, the fuel temperature sender is to the left of this (horizontal orientation) in the fuel rail. Sometimes when the two sensors electrical connections have been removed they can be swapped over when being reconnected and cause problems for the ECU. The only connections and temperature sender on the radiator is for the fan.

Found it! The single wire from the sender goes through the offside wing valence behind the alternator, strange routing!

The most useful document for the EFI is a copy of the LR Disco wiring diagram, that shows the various sensors, injectors, IACV, and the connection to the ECU. So while it may not provide the detail of the physical location it does answer the question regarding what sensors exist. If you would like a copy send me a private message with your email address.
