I never thought I would say this, but.... I enjoyed ironing!

Here in Spain, we enjoy a fantastic sunny weather most of the year. So, when we go for a drive in our 3-Wheeler, we use to wear short sleeves shirts as it’s warm enough. But then comes the negative part: we risk of sun burns. Quite a serious problem. Despite we use solar protection creams, with the speed the air seems fresher, and we don’t pay attention about the hours under the sun.

We use UV arm protection sleeves to avoid the sun burns. And trust me: when you forget to put them on…. You can get really burn! Last “Short fighter mission” I forgot to put them on again after a nice break in the Cuervo River Spring, and just one hour later we stopped for lunch and my arms were red as lobsters!

We though about having more UV arm protection sleeves and customize them with special stickers home-made that you iron on the fabric.

We have no idea about the real quality of this experiment. Maybe after the first washing machine the sticker disappears. But at first sight I find the result very satisfactory; and I guess they will stay for long!

So, I spent many hours ironing different logos and stickers on the arm sleeves. This is the result. What do you think?










PD: we made some for our good friends of the South West France squadron. That's why some logos are specific for them.

Great job! It's important to cover arms and head in a convertible, but a surprising number of people don't wear hats. I always wear a lightweight jacket in the Morgan so my arms are protected. Don't forget to apply lotion to your ears.

As Dave said - ears are easy to forget - my brother had to have a chunk of one ear removed due to a skin cancer caused by the sun - we called him "Vincent" after that - but his oil painting skills did not improve.
I`ve had a couple of solar damage lesions removed (Foreign Lesions!) from my face. So factor 30 minimum and a hat plus long sleeves when in the Mog -even if it is cloudy but bright. The dermatologist told me that from March to October, if I could see my shadow to wear sunscreen and a hat.

Exactly! It's no joke to get sun burns! Long sleeves are another option for us, but too warm in many occasions.

We drive long distances wearing helmets, so the ears are not an issue. But the nose and lips need attention! As the helmet visor covers to our chins, but has no UV filter. So, nice 50+ sunblock and ready to go.

Agreed, even up here in the north you can get severe sunburns. As a matter of fact, we have an extermely high rate of melanoma. Great job and surely good fun making up the protective sleeves. When it comes to helmet visors etc., you need not worry. It is almost impossible to make transparent plastic/perspex/lexan/plexiglass that does NOT filter away UV radiation. Even an ordinary plastic bag will do the job, as will any window pane. The only medium that lets UV go through, is quartz glass, as you will find for example in solariums. In the old days they used quartz glass in huge balconys in tuberculosis sanatoruims, belieivng that sun radiation includung UV was beneficial. Very expensive and sadly with no effect, but that was how it was. Just a fun fact.
