I have some cashmire wool socks (from John Lewis) which are mega-warm, amd I have been known to sport some Helly Hansen Lifa wear long-johns. (Very fetching). The whole ensemble being set off with some leather Toggi jodphur boots.
BUT NO TIGHTS

ps Make sure your heater vents are open and pointing in the right direction Refered to generally as "Smelly Hansen" Recommend something in Merino Wool as it does not smell

I have size 10.5 or eleven English or 46 European. I must say that I do not seem to have an excess of space. I searched on the web for a good driving shoe (not a race shoe) and I found Piloti which, despite the Italian name, are made in America. Unfortunately it seems the company is in trouble and the European distributor has passed remaining stock to an internet seller. I have not been able to find anything else made specifically as a driving shoe. Currently I am using a Ecco Checkpoint shoe which does not seem to be in their current range. It is good for driving because the sole wraps around the back of the heel. The nearest they seem to have at the moment is the Welt Sneaker

Puma, Adidas, Oakley and many more make racing style trainers as well as proper motorsport spec shoes. I have Pumas whose soles are as you describe.

In all seriousness though merino wool really doesn't smell. I used to be able to wear a top for 5 days in a row, whilst doing manual work, and it would only mildly smell by the end of the week. Much warmer/more consistent heat wise too.
Icebreaker from Snow and Rock is excellent.

I'm another Ecco user.......similar ones to your Peter. I have size 43 feet and don't have any problems with space but it's good to get a sole that wraps around the back of the heel. I did look at Piloti and meant to get a pair at the forthcoming Classic Car Show where the distributor had a stand...but it seems they probably won't be there this year The only car I've had difficulty with pedal wise was the Elise......kept accelerating at the same time as braking and that was not me trying to heel and toe!! The dealer looked at my trainers in despair and said "racing boots for you young man!"

I have a pair of "several year old" trainer style shoes. light as slippers. Soles have "matured" to a thickness that allows good feel. No space problems - they are snug to wear and slim.

Heated electric socks! i need to know more.
Have a look at gerbings And I can vouch for the effectiveness of the heated waistcoat.

I have'nt experienced cold feet driving in the Morgan. The heater is very effective in keeping the lower half of the body comfortable, it's the upper half that suffers the most, by far.
As for comfortable/practical footware that is compact I recommend you look no further than Piloti (especially if you have big feet like me !). They are designed for this kind of use, but shop around, as there are bargains to be had (they are not particularly cheap at rrp prices).
I like them so much that I have built up a small collection of different styles/colours. In my opinion, the best by far are the leather 'classic' range ('Sebring' 'Muroc' etc..) They suit the Morgan 'style' very well. If you prefer trainer style footware they have more in that kind of style so choice is better there.
Hope this info is of use to you. Cheers N-M
