Ah yes, the front bolt on mine must have been fitted before the engine was dropped in as it was head to the front so impossible to remove and very tight. I removed the whole supporting frame from the front of the block to remove the alternator when replacing my water pump.

I have a collection of old spanners that lend themselves to modification for awkward jobs. They came into our steelworks scrapyard as rejects when I worked there in the 1970’s. By sifting through I got a nice range of sizes. Most had one good end but mangled other end.
One came in handy to take the lever arm damper off my 4/4 after grinding it to fit into the gap for one bolt. I have slimmed down a couple of others and bent a couple to give offsets.
I also still have some nails that came in. I found some good ones amongst the bad.
