The hood release mechanism seemed to be getting more and more reluctant to undo when lowering the hood or or just stowing the shopping. Pulling harder and harder on the release handle seemed like a recipe for disaster, "something's going to break". So on the basis of Do A Job Properly, off came the spare wheel/cover and luggage rack, and by lubricating the universal joint on my neck I could see what the problem was. It is a simple two-part sliding latch, and it appeared the mechanism had not been greased since leaving the factory 12 years ago. Some WD40 and then some proper spray white grease has sorted it, and it now releases with a nice "click". When I got my MOG new I was allways thinking: when does the plastic handle break?
As I was new in Morgans I was far away from a look under the sparewheel. But I noticed that the Hamburg MORGANPARK has some
better looking chromehandles.
Better looking and to handle. But now after two and a half year of ownership my knowledges are a little better.

In addition, check the tightness of the two fixings in each catch

Check the pins align properly with the catches, they are slightly bent and can therefore be adjusted by slackening and rotating to give a fore / aft / L&R tweak

I have come across several, including my own, where the securing allen bolts have been loose or even dropped out. That can cause latching issues, either not latching or not releasing. I always check their security as part of my annual service.

Greets René Rene It's not the handle that breaks but the screws which are very short pull out of the wood, don't ask me how I know

Check the pins align properly with the catches, they are slightly bent and can therefore be adjusted by slackening and rotating to give a fore / aft / L&R tweak If you do adjust them make sure your don't get it wrong , They should curve inwards otherwise it is very hard to release.
