I think I broke something changing the handbrake cable as I now have a small, but consistent oil leak but I can't figure out where it's coming from.

When I replaced the handbrake cable I lifted the tunnel to give me a few inches of access and ever since I've noticed this leak.

I really doesn't appear to be coming from the gearbox - even though that would appear to be the obvious location (to me at least).

I've run my hands everywhere I can reach and tried to follow all the lines without success.

My current theory is that by lifting the tunnel I may have dislodged the engine oil lubrication system for the suspension and maybe caused a leak there. Does that sound reasonable ? I was planning on removing this at some point due to the feedback I found on this site.

All suggestions, criticisms and other feedback are welcome and deserved .

I would check the line that leads to the oil pressure gauge. In my 1984 4/4 this is coming into the car on the right side about 10cm above the gearbox tunnel. Maybe you slightly damaged it when you lifted the tunnel?

Have you identified that it as engine oil? If you have then I would go with Tim's suggestion as the one shot oiler lines run in the engine bay not inside the cockpit and the floor switch for the oiler is on the drivers side.

Sounds like the oiler or pressure gauge az suggested

Thank you, I appreciate the suggestions - I'll focus my attention on the one shot oiler - this was on my list to look at removing so I guess I'll move that forward on my itinerary

it does look like engine oil although I wouldn't be able to know what gearbox oil looks like yet - haven't got that far in my adventures.

Yep, I'd try oiler - the feed for the pressure gauge is integral with the oiler.

Phil, it looks as if you've already dealt with replacing the oiler in an earlier post - just wanted to make sure I fully understood how you removed the oiler. It seems that you took everything out and just connected the existing pressure gauge directly to the engine with the braided pipe - is that correct ?

Yes - removed all the oiler pipework and plunger, and just a length of 6ft braided hose from the engine block to the oil pressure guage (going through the 'plunger' hole via a big grommet). Replaced the fittings on top of the kingpins with grease nipples (just to keep the much out, I don't grease the tops).
